Jules Malec to participate in talk about legendary Cdr Lionel ‘Buster’ Crabb OBE GM RNVR

UNFORTUNATELY, THIS EVENT HAS SINCE BEEN CANCELLED

26 Feb 2024 - I am grateful to my old naval friend and colleague Rob ‘Rab’ Scott for forwarding this announcement featuring MCDOA member Julian ‘Jules’ Malec. Rob informs me that the RBL’s Droxford & District Branch also includes MCDOA members Mike Critchley, Geoff Goodwin, Jon Riches and Chris Tarmey, not to mention the Lord Lt and three Deputies.

If you plan to attend, ensure you book a place beforehand by notifying Rob at robmunroscott@aol.com.

Postscript: In 1976, the Soviet Kashin class guided missile destroyer OBRATZOVY visited Portsmouth. This was the first visit by a Soviet warship to the UK since 1956 when Cdr Lionel 'Buster' Crabb OBE GM RNVR disappeared while diving under the Sverdlov class cruiser ORDZHONIKIDZE which brought Soviet President Nikita Khrushchev and Premier Nikolai Bulganin for talks with British Prime Minister Anthony Eden. OBRATZOVY’s visit included a full round of reciprocal visits and activities. Much to their amusement, her officers were hosted by my Long MCD Officers’ Course at HMS VERNON. Among the social events involved was a beer & skittles evening at the Fox & Hounds in Denmead.
