MCDOA members attend MWA ‘Dit Session’

24 Feb 2024 - Last night’s MWA (Minewarfare Association) Southern Area monthly dit session at The Crown in Fareham was as convivial as ever. Thanks to Kimmie, the pub’s manageress who photo-bombed us in the background, and to Lucy who took the photo.

I was particularly pleased to see Schoolie (Instructor Officer) MCDO Ralph Mavin whom I first met when he was drafted in to instil astro-navigation in my class of bonehead cadets at BRNC Dartmouth in 1971. He was later my LMCDO Course Officer at HMS VERNON in 1976 and we have remained friends ever since. I was also glad to see Ralph’s fellow MCDOA member Chris Davies who was one of my XOs in HMS BERKELEY in the Gulf in 1988/89.

Other attendees comprised joint-MCDOA/MWA members Martyn Holloway and Bill Kerr plus Peter ‘Taff’ Reader, Dave Smith and Peter Whitehead.
