Mgahinga Community Nursery School (MCNS) and GDFA Fund Raising Appeal

Mgahinga Community Nursery School is one of the activities being carried out by the Gisozi Duter’imbere Farmers Association (GDFA), which is one of the Mgahinga Community Development Organization (MCDO)’s Departments. The project is located at Koranya Trading Centre, about 800 metres before the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (MGNP) main entrance.

At present of the 200 children in the area only 37 of them are being schooled at the nursery school by two teachers. The reason for only 37 out of 200 local children being schooled is simple…the families in the local area cannot afford to send their children to school.

The cost of schooling at Mgahinga Community Nursery School for one child per term is 40,000 Ugandan Schillings which is the equivalent to around $20 American Dollars or £10 English Pounds. Over a year that is $60 or £30. Not a lot in our eyes but it’s the world for a poor African rural family.

The Mgahinga Community Nursery School is asking for your help.

The staff are doing a great job and the children are enjoying their time at the school so lets keep it that way by giving them a helping hand.

The challenges they face are all too common throughout Africa but with the whole community pulling together they have made remarkable progress in their aims for the future. All they need now is a little help to carry on this exceptional working in sometimes a very hostile environment. They have the passion, commitment and determination to carry on and all they need is a little push from us in the right direction.

  • They need help financially, but also help at the grass roots level.
  • They need to finish constructing the classrooms that they have already started the work on.
  • They need more land for the playground.
  • They need to construct a water tank so they have plenty of clean water for the school.
  • The teachers need to be paid a salary so that the parents do not need to pay school fees to pay the teachers.
  • The children need school uniforms, which, as any parent knows children grow quickly so they are always in need of replacement.

If you can help in anyway, through donations, sponsorship, knowledge or hands on please contact us. Thankyou.

This and many other projects that are supported by MCDO focus on the future through education and the environment. Support MCDO in building a better future for the children of Uganda.
