About the staff

Hanyurwa Sheba, Founder of the MCDO

Sheba was born and raised in Kisoro, Uganda. His passion is for the community in which he was born into and the environment in which he was raised. Sheba worked for the Ugandan Wildlife Authority for many years. He has habituated mountain gorillas and taught the trackers who track the mountain gorillas for tourists to visit. He likes to be known as a ‘forest man’, this is where he feels most at home. Sheba is responsible for the creation of the MCDO and the MECC (Mutanda Eco Community Centre).

Sandra E. Gray Bsc (Hons) GiBiol, Head of Scientific Research of the MCDO
 
Sandra is a zoologist and previously worked for the Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund as volunteer co-coordinator and worked in Cameroon with the orphans of the bush meat trade, in particular the chimpanzees and western lowland gorillas. Sandra is the Scientific Technical Advisor for Conservation, Environmental Education and Sustainable Development at Lake Mutanda (MECC) and also Head of Research for the Golden Monkey study in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Ndayambaje Edison, Director of the MCDO

Edison started working as a volunteer with MCDO in 2005 immediately after completing his high school education. This brings about three years of experience in community development initiatives within the MCDO. Edison received his BA in Economics from Makerere University Uganda, under assistance of the MCDO sponsorship scheme. He has experience with statistical analysis programmes especially SPSS and STATA. He also has a very good background in Financial Management, Micro and Macroeconomics and Project planning and management.

Kamanzi Festo, Administrator and International Coordinator for MCDO

Festo has worked for MCDO since 2003 and has valuable experience in community projects administration. He is responsible for coordinating the sponsorship scheme of the disadvantaged students who are being supported by the MCDO. Nsengiyumva Emmanuel, Project Manager for the MECC and other projects that are supported by the MCDO

Emmanuel has worked with community-based projects for more than 10 years at management level. He is the one responsible for the daily management of MCDO projects especially the MECC and the Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp (AICC).

Andy Gray BSc (Hons) AS, UK Volunteer Co-ordinator

Andy is a zoologist and has studied animal sciences and animal behaviour. He has studied the behaviour of the Western Lowland Gorilla and travelled to Africa many times. Andy manages the UK office and is responsible for volunteer recruitment, marketing, adverting and is liaison officer for all volunteer applicants.
